Sheila Atwood Kuonen

Mrs. Sheila
began studying dance at McAfee Ballet, at the age of 11, and danced many rolls
in studio productions and in Ballets with the Arkansas Symphony. After receiving
her degree in Education at Little Rock University , she studied
at Jacob's Pillow in Lee, Massachusetts and traveled in
Europe to observe
continental dance. She has choreographed and performed for the entertainment
circuit with the "Greasy Greens." Sheila has her Montessori Certificate from
the St. Nicholas Montessori Centre in London, England. She has been
teaching in Montessori schools for the last 19 years and retired in summer of
2014. She has also taught Creative Energies for over 25 years. Sheila began
teaching modern dance and all levels of ballet at the McAfee Ballet School in 1965, some
of her modern dance teachers were Debra Zahl (Graham technique), Lonny
Joseph-Gordon, and Magnollo Agullo. Mrs. Sheila joined Mrs. Sandy on staff of Dancers' Corner the day the transition occurred from McAfee Ballet. She is an amazing instructor and a great gem for our dancers!
I am proud and excited to announce that Mrs. Sheila took and passed (with perfect scores!) her Ballet exams in July 2012 and was inducted as a member of SADM in Oct. 2012.
